Tom Smith Big Band presents Trailers
Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, W1D 4HT , [Venue Details]Hot off the heels of their acclaimed debut album A Year In The Life, the Tom Smith Big Band returns to Ronnie Scott’s with Trailers, an ambitious new cinematic and cross-genre project from the award-winning saxophonist and composer.
This is thrilling, story-driven big band music with melody, edge, wit and heart.
Trailers takes the audience on a journey through the sound world of cinema, as seen through the lens of a contemporary jazz big band. Drawing inspiration from composers like John Williams, Bernard Herrmann and Jerry Goldsmith, Smith’s sweeping new suite moves seamlessly from noir to romance, from psychological tension to high-octane chase scenes. The performance is accompanied by striking new artwork from visual artist Ollie Hayward, whose posters for each 'film' bring these imagined worlds vividly to life.
Featuring some of the UK’s most formidable players, including Alex Garnett, Paul Booth, Trevor Mires, Freddie Gavita, and Will Barry, the Tom Smith Big Band is fast becoming one of the most exciting large ensembles in British jazz. Joined by Smith himself on saxophone, this promises to be a bold and cinematic return to Ronnie’s from a band redefining what the modern big band can be.
